Got a puppy or adult dog that chews on its leash during a walk? Here’s how to fix that behavior. Get a double-ended bolt snap and a choke chain sized appropriately for your dog. E.g., get a small snap and chain for a small dog, a medium snap and chain for a medium to large dog, a large snap and chain for a large to giant dog.
Attach the snap to the dog’s regular collar or head halter and to one end of the choke chain. Attach the leash to the opposite end of the choke chain, and you’re done. NEVER attach the choke chain as a collar around the dog’s neck!

For a while, your puppy may still mouth the chain where it used to chew on the leash. As the chain is uncomfortable for chewing, the chain-mouthing behavior should cease over a short period of time.
